The
Ekaterinburg ORT GET-IT Centre has been educating young entrepreneurs
for two years. The Centre started by identifying the needs of the
local community in Ekaterinburg. It was found that educational
institutions had a need to deliver training on entrepreneurial skills,
and that the creation of new jobs was of the highest priority. An
increase in the share of small businesses was needed to help sustain
the local community. The Centre found that self-employment, financial
independence, and confidence in the future were all lacking in the
local population. The Center found the introduction of GET-IT
programme to be one of the solutions to these issues. The Centre
therefore presented the GET-IT programme to young people in the local
community, as well as to representatives of educational institutions
and to the mass media. Trainings were started shortly thereafter and
business-related counselling and support were offered to the Centres
students. With the help of a series of partnerships established with
different local partners educational, employment, and business
organisations 450 students have been trained on GET-IT, more than 170
of whom have found jobs, started their own business, or improved their
performance.
